When I’m creating my new cartoons, it involves a lot of staring

at a blank sheet of paper on occasion.. Sometimes when I sit down, I Got Nothin’! Other times there is a whole bunch of ideas flowing that you just can’t rough ideas in quick  enough. But, either way it always starts with a pencil sketch.

This page is will be a hodge-podge of first time sketches and

I’ll even throw in some old cartoons from years ago. People always want to know what goes on behind the scenes… I’ll try to cover that stuff on this page.

Creating a Cartoon Panel...

As you can see here, you need to draw the characters in different situations and positions. With me most of the time I’m not sure where I am going with it until I get there.

It develops as the pencil moves.

Here we have

Bob (Pencil drawing) bending down feeding something to something. This is a rough first sketch.

First 3 stages of a butterfly. This isn’t a panel yet… Just a drawing of life doing its thing.

(Pencil drawing.)

…. More stuff to come.

This is a final inked in drawing before I insert it into the actual panel structure.

After this stage, I scan it into a program called publisher and add narrative building the actual finished panel.

As promised below are a few cartoons from many years ago….

This is a Pterodactyl (pronounced ter-u-dak-til).

It is the most famous of the Flying Dinosaurs, even though it actually was not a dinosaur. It was a reptile.

Drawing dinosaurs is a fun thing to do because other then following the structure of known skeletons, from there the detail can be somewhat in the imagination of the artist.

This is a Galapagos Turtle. These amazing creatures can live to well over 150 years old and live in the wild only on the Galapagos Islands.

This one was really fun to draw..

Like I’ve said, I’ve been at this a long time.

These are from somewhere around 1990.

Being my NFL career didn’t work out… OK, neither did High School Football... But I still got my pencil….
